How does Fedco ensure seed quality?
We test seed viability every 6 months to ensure high germination rates, maintain quality control, and determine accurate sowing rates for high-yield results. Andrew, the Germination Quality Control Tester, plays a crucial role here in this process by conducting regular seed viability assessments. A germination test is the only meaningful measurement of seed viability, since it doesn’t really matter how old the seeds are. If they germinate well, they’re good, even if they’re old. And if they don’t germinate well, they’re not good, even if they’re fresh.Yes! Even seeds that are thousands of years old can germinate. But proper pre-treatment is essential, and the older the seed, the less energy it has left in storage. Seeds from annual plants aren’t often designed to last many years, part of what makes the germination process so tricky.
