Alyssum typically grows so fast and easy, I would see no reason to not direct sow. If you’re having problems,, you’re really doing something wrong (from my experience). No idea what though 🙂 Even if covered, they seem to come up (remembering when I did them long long ago and had no idea of them needing light).
