What is the common name for Amelanchier?
amelanchier trees have it all: masses of spring blossom, autumn colour, and even edible fruits, which are also attractive to birds. Most are compact in habit and are therefore perfect trees for small gardens. They have a number of common names, including snowy mespilus, juneberry and serviceberry. Our most popular variety is amelanchier arborea robin hill which has a more regular and upright shape than others making this a popular choice in smaller gardens with less space.
How tall do Amelanchier trees grow?
Amelanchier canadensis Tree The small tree has upright branches and shrubby growth, growing to a height and spread of 4 x 4 metres in 20 years. Amelanchier canadensis grows in full sun to partial shade in well-draining to slightly damp conditions. This hardy, tough tree can also cope with some exposure to the elements. The Amelanchier is a fast grower, although it grows in a natural shape. It is therefore not essential to prune the tree. It is good, however, to rejuvenate the shrub from time to time to keep it flowering. The Amelanchier is also often pruned when the branches start to grow wild.
