What is the common name for Scleranthus?
Scleranthus biflorus is a cushion-bush found in Australia and New Zealand. Other common names include the knawel and two-flowered knawel or twin-flower knawel. Scleranthus biflorus is a beautiful compact, evergreen Australian native ground cover, with vibrant green foliage all year round, and yellow green flowers during summer. Ideal ground cover for growing in between garden rockeries, creeping over logs, cascading out of pots, between pavers or stone walls.
How do you care for scleranthus uniflorus?
Grow in well-drained, sandy or gritty soil in full sun. Dislikes winter wet. Does not tolerate hot, humid summers. Tolerates light foot traffic once established. It grows most successfully in full sun, but may tolerate partial shade. Well-drained sandy soil is ideal, but it can also grow in finer soil.Plant in full sun, part sun, or very bright shade in the hottest of climates. Grows 1 to 3 feet high and spreads to 8 to 12 feet wide. The key to success is to plant in gravelly, fast-draining soil. Soggy clay soil will cause this ground cover to rot.With its strikingly colored foliage it is commonly grown as a houseplant or annual groundcover with its sprawling habit. This plant grows in full sun to partial shade in moist organically rich well-drained soil. Brightly colored leaves are most showy in full sun conditions.
