What is a pleached tree?
Pleached trees are defined as a frame that creates a two-dimensional effect, with branches spreading sideways in one plane on top of a clear stem of 1. They are perfect for planting next to a fence where planning permission is needed, to extend a fence above 1. Traditionally, Lime, Beech and Hornbeam trees have been a popular choice for pleaching, and today they are still some of the most commonly-used trees. For something a bit different, Hedges Direct also offers Field Maple, London Plane, Cherry Laurel and Photinia pleached trees.
Can you pleached olive trees?
Pleached Olive Trees are very popular above fence screening because they create total privacy, growing tall enough to completely block out neighbours and retaining their foliage all year round. You may find some natural leaf shed in April but this is quickly filled in with new strong growth. Olive trees can be propagated by taking semi-ripe cuttings in summer or hardwood cuttings in winter.
