Is Baker Creek organic?
Pure and Natural seeds means that you start with a product that is untreated and free of pesticides. Although our seeds are not certified organic, they can certainly be used in an organic garden and many are grown by organic farmers. Fedco Seeds is a cooperative owned 60% by customers and 40% by employees. Fedco is a signatory of the Safe Seed Pledge, which commits them to selling non GMO seed.Much of the seed offered is certified organic. The company maintains high standards, tests for genetically modified contamination, and offers excellent customer service. I’ve ordered from Fedco for several years now, and I’ve never been disappointed.
Are Baker Creek seeds any good?
Seeds grow well and they are reliable about getting your order to you. I love Baker Creek seeds! Yes, I order from them yearly. How long do seeds usually last? When stored in a cool, dry, and dark place, seeds for many garden vegetables will be viable for around 3 years. Some, like onions and parsnips, are viable for only a year or two. Others, like squashes and tomatoes, last longer, for 5+ years.That’s a good place to start when determining whether or not you can use seeds from past seasons. Seeds that have been stored in a cool, dry place are generally viable for at least a year past the season for which they were packaged and may be good for up to five years.They will last longer if kept cold, dry, and away from sunlight. A Master Gardener I took a class from kept seeds in the freezer. She had seeds that were 20 years old that would still germinate. Generally speaking the larger seeds will have longer shelf life but that’s not absolute.You’re good. I planted all old seeds last year (at least 8 to 10 years old) that was given to me by my FIL and still got quite a few that germinated. ALL of the seeds were stored in a closet for all that time. You won’t have as high of a germination rate like you would if they were fresh, but they will still grow.
