How to tell if a plant needs water?
If the soil feels dry three or four inches below the surface, water. A common rule of thumb is that most plants need the equivalent of one inch of rainfall a week, on average—enough to soak into the soil about six inches. If you do not have a moisture meter: Push your finger into the soil 2-3 inches. If the soil clings to your finger and feels moist, don’t water. Water the plant if the soil falls loosely off your finger and is dry to the touch.
