How to make a simple flower bed?
Clear the ground first before you put it in position. Line the base with damp newspaper. Then fill with garden compost and add granular feed. Water well before adding plants. Depending on the size and your budget either grow flowers from seed or purchase plants from a garden centre. Water the remaining soil thoroughly. Work fresh potting soil down into the holes and pockets you made and mix it with the old soil. Fill the pot with additional potting mix to the original soil level on the plant’s trunk.
Can you plant straight into a no-dig bed?
With no dig, you can plant straight into compost, so a new bed is ready for planting as soon as it has been made. For this reason, I advise having some plants ready in order to maximise growing time. Spread several inches of compost on top of the existing bed, then till it into the soil in the springtime. Put a handful of compost in each hole when you’re planting. Once plants begin to grow quickly, you can add a half-inch layer of compost around the base of the plants.Simple digging This is often the best option for working with irregularly-shaped beds or around existing plants. Simply lift a spade of soil, invert it and drop it back in its original position. To put it simply, you should put a layer of organic material at the bottom of your garden bed, which will break down and enrich the soil. This can include compost, or woody material such as logs, dry wood, branches, and leaves.
