What happens when a sprinkler system is activated?
Fire sprinklers are activated by heat, not smoke. Each sprinkler head contains a small frangible glass bulb filled with a special liquid. When the surrounding air reaches a specific temperature, this liquid expands, causing the glass to break and releasing water to suppress the fire. The sprinkler heads are frangible bulbs filled with a liquid that, when heated, expand causing the bulb(s) to break and the system to release water. The water from the sprinkler head will cover the area where the fire is located and will continue to operate until the fire department can fully extinguish the fire.Standard fire sprinklers are triggered when the temperature around the sprinkler head reaches around 68°C (155°F), a temperature too high for a typical room to reach without a fire. This is the activation temperature for most residential and commercial buildings. The Category 3 fire sprinkler rules are designed to protect larger premises with multiple occupants, such as student halls of residence, private apartment buildings, and residential care homes with more than ten inhabitants.Fire sprinklers are triggered by heat. They do not respond to smoke, steam, or dust. Only when the surrounding air reaches the sprinkler’s activation temperature will it discharge water.
Do motion-activated sprinklers work for cats?
I have used the motion activated sprinkler. It was good at keeping cats and some dogs and some kids away. A few dogs will may just love it and and occasional kid will amuse themselves with it a few times but they grow tired of it. The effect is to frighten the cats rather than soak them and they will quickly learn not to enter the area. After a while, the sprinkler becomes unnecessary. It doesn’t work in winter conditions, as the water will freeze, but if you introduce the device in warmer weather, by wintertime you’ll have trained them.
