Are Suncast sheds durable?
At Suncast, all of our storage sheds are constructed from resin, a high-density synthetic compound that is lightweight, durable, and economical when compared to materials such as metal and wood—making it perfect for long-term indoor or outdoor use. On the downside, plastic sheds may not match the look and feel of a classic wooden garden storage shed. Plastic can also become brittle and fade over time when exposed to harsh UV rays. Cheaper plastic sheds may lack the durability of high-quality wood.Plastic sheds offer the significant advantage of being nearly maintenance-free. Unlike wooden sheds, you won’t need to replace roof felt, sand, paint, or treat them for rot and pests. Rust is also not a concern compared to their metal counterparts. The structures are easy to assemble and create a tight seal. However, resin is much lower maintenance. Resin and plastic sheds won’t rust, peel, or rot, and they can easily last 15–20 years (or more) with hardly any upkeep. Metal sheds are more vulnerable to rust if not properly coated or maintained, especially in humid or salty climates.Resin plastic sheds have limited disadvantages. They need to be anchored to a base and can’t hold as much weight. These sheds also tend to be pricier than metal sheds (but less expensive than wooden sheds). The Disadvantages of Metal Sheds The main disadvantage is that metal sheds are prone to rust over time. This is a particular challenge in North Carolina when continued exposure to high humidity and regular thunderstorms expose the metal to enough moisture to cause unsightly rust that is difficult to remove or repair.
