Do Electronic Composters Compost? The answer is clear — NO! Almost all the manufacturers of these units claim they make compost because that is a popular, eco-friendly way to handle food scraps. Any company making this claim is using false advertising to sell its product. Composter is a little play on words because the end result isn’t fully decomposed organic matter. It gives it a jump start. We simply mix (or mulch) the final product directly into our garden where the decomposing continues. This device reduces the waste we send to the landfill.Composting can attract unwanted pests and wildlife, which can create public health risks and damage property. Plus, improperly managed compost piles can emit strong odors, which can create problems for nearby residents and businesses.
Do you put compost on top of the soil or mix it in?
You can add compost to your flower and vegetable beds, window boxes, and container gardens; incorporate it into tree beds; mix it with potting soil for indoor plants; or spread it on top of the soil in your yard. Compost can be used as a soil amendment or as a mulch. It’s possible to put your compost bin on concrete, tarmac or patio slabs, but it is a good idea to place a layer of soil, compost, manure or newspaper and card on the bottom so that worms and other creatures can be attracted to the compost.
