Do camassia bulbs spread?
Overcrowded Bulbs Camassia will naturalise, growing more and more baby bulbs each year. If they’re left for too long, they might struggle to grow. In the summer once they’ve finished flowering and died back, lift the bulbs and divide them, replanting them elsewhere in the garden. Unlike many spring bulbs, camassias will grow in heavy, moist soils, so they’re a good choice for areas of your garden where other spring bulbs may not thrive. Completely hardy, they come back year after year. Bees love the flowers, and they’re largely untroubled by slugs and snails. They also make good cut flowers.Camassia like moist (but not waterlogged) soil in full sun or light shade. Left undisturbed, they will increase in numbers over the years. In very cold gardens, apply a thick mulch in autumn to provide protection from winter frost.
What month do you plant hyacinths?
Hyacinth bulbs are mid-spring bloomers, and, like other springtime bulbs, they are best planted in the fall, usually in October or November depending on your garden zone. Bulbs use the mild fall months to grow root systems and soak up nutrients before settling into dormancy for the cold winter. To put on a successful spring bulb show, it’s all about planting in fall. The best time to plant spring-flowering bulbs such as crocus, daffodils, hyacinth, and tulips is mid-to late-fall, which is from late September to November in our area. Ideally, soil temperatures will be below 60°F but above freezing.
