How much sun does a prayer plant need?
Prayer Plants grow best in bright, indirect light that keeps their leaves colorful and healthy. While too much sunlight can burn them, too little light can slow your Prayer Plant’s growth; the leaves will also lose their prized patterns. In low light, your prayer plant will survive, but it might lose some vibrancy or get a bit leggy. Water: Keep soil consistently moist but not soggy. Water when the top inch of soil feels dry. Never let your praying hands plant sit in standing water (they hate wet feet and will rot faster than you can say “uh-oh”).Pot requirements: Prayer plant has shallow roots, so a pot that is somewhat shallow and wide is more suitable than one that is tall and deep. Plant in a pot with adequate drainage holes that is slightly larger than the root ball.A dehydrated Prayer Plant will stop ‘praying’ in an effort to conserve water. Keep watch for signs that your plant needs watered, including drooping, wilting, or curling leaves and ensure the plant does not dry out completely!Recognizing Unhealthy Prayer Plants Look out for drooping or wilting leaves, which often signal distress. Another red flag is leaf discoloration. If you notice yellowing or browning edges, it’s time to investigate further. Fading leaf patterns and variegation can also indicate a problem.
Should you bottom water a prayer plant?
Bottom watering is really great for prayer plants. If you have a prayer plant I swear just bottom water it and you will see that you will avoid over watering them because they want that consistency and moist soil throughout. As far as size goes, prayer plants don’t need a lot of room to expand. They’re slow-growing, which means they won’t become rootbound too quickly. Choose a pot that is only an inch or two wider than the plant’s root ball.Pruning: Prune your prayer plant by cutting just above leaf nodes using a pair of sterilized garden scissors. Pruning two or three times a year (best times are in fall and spring) helps to encourage bushy growth. Pruning a prayer plant also helps to remove any leggy stems or dead leaves.
