Does balloon vine need full sun?
Balloon vine prefers tropical and sub-tropical climates but can also grow in warm temperate regions. It grows well in moist, well-drained soil and is often found on alluvial loam. It can tolerate a wide variety of soil types. It grows best in full sun but can tolerate partial shade. Cardiospermum halicacabum, known as the lesser balloon vine, balloon plant or love in a puff, is a climbing plant widely distributed across tropical and subtropical areas of Africa, Australia, South Asia and North America that is often found as a weed along roads and rivers.
Do balloon plants bloom all summer?
Balloon flowers are generally planted in the spring after the danger of frost has passed, growing quickly to bloom in the first year during the summer. In subsequent years, the plant will bloom beginning in late spring and last through the summer. New branches grow and sprout more flowers. Deadheading a balloon flower is a worthwhile chore. In summer, you can prune further down and remove up to one-third of the branches for a total rebloom.
