What is the difference between Heuchera and Tiarella?
Tiarellas tend to have more vein markings and more deeply lobed leaves than heucheras, which makes it a little easier to identify when the dead giveaway flower spike is not present. Tiarella stolons can be quite long and allow the plant to spread throughout woodland gardens as a ground cover. Foam flowers can either be clumpers or wide spreaders.
Is Tiarella the same as Heuchera?
Native to the North American woodlands, these evergreen perennials thrive in dappled shade and make excellent ground cover. While Heuchera is clump-forming, Tiarella, its cousin, spreads through runners. It presents the same attractive features, although its flowerheads are denser. Alumroot. What grows well with Tiarella?
Mix with other shade-loving plants: Tiarella pairs well with other shade-loving plants like ferns, hostas, and heucheras. Mix and match different varieties to create a stunning display of foliage and flowers. Use as a ground cover: Tiarella spreads quickly, making it an excellent choice for ground cover. Tiarella need cool, moist, humus-rich soil in full shade for best results. This does not mean waterlogged soil which can cause the clumps to rot off but they will tolerate a range of soil types. They are therefore ideal groundcover plants for a shady border or a border beside a stream in shade.Runners may be trimmed or transplanted as needed.
