What is Holly-tone used for?
Holly-tone ® is a fertilizer designed to feed plants that prefer to live in acidic soils. Holly-tone ® is an organic, slow-release fertilizer and is enhanced with Bio-tone ® microbes, so it is very safe to use. Established acid-loving plants should be fed twice yearly, spring and late fall. Sprinkle Holly-tone ® around like adding salt and pepper to food.Long-lasting Nutrient Supply Plant-tone and Holly-tone are designed to feed your plants gently and consistently for up to six months. As the ground freezes, these fertilizers temporarily halt their feeding process, resuming only when the soil thaws in spring.The ideal time to use holly tone fertilizer is when a gardener gets the best return on application. For a holly bush, this means applying this fertiliser in early spring and in fall.A general rule of thumb is, if it is an evergreen and keeps its leaves or needles, use Holly Tone. Some notable exceptions are dogwoods, blueberries, magnolia, raspberries, ferns, and several other acid-loving plants, all of which would benefit from Holly Tone. Everything else can be fertilized with Plant Tone.
Is Holly-tone safe?
Holly-tone is the original plant food for all acid-loving plants! It’s a rich blend of the finest natural & organic ingredients and enhanced with humates & beneficial microbes. No sludges or fillers are ever used. Soil: Holly prefers rich, well-draining soil that’s slightly acidic. When planting in containers, use a high-quality, all-purpose potting mix and make sure containers have adequate drainage holes. Watering: Holly plants perform best with moderate water. Keep soil evenly moist but not soggy.
Does Holly-tone make soil acidic?
Holly Tone is an organic, balanced fertilizer with an N-P-K analysis of 4-3-4. It also contains 3% calcium (Ca), 1% magnesium (Mg) and 5% sulfur (S). The sulfur component is the key here, as this product will act to raise the acidity of the soil where it’s used. Products like Holly-tone are excellent since they provide both nutrients and help acidify the soil.
Can I use Holly-tone on everything?
A general rule of thumb is, if it is an evergreen and keeps its leaves or needles, use Holly Tone. Some notable exceptions are dogwoods, blueberries, magnolia, raspberries, ferns, and several other acid-loving plants, all of which would benefit from Holly Tone. Everything else can be fertilized with Plant Tone. We recommend using organic Espoma Rose Tone or Holly- tone. Your roses will enjoy an occasional water-soluble feeding in between granular feedings.
