What is the best position for a vegetable garden?
Most vegetables grow best in a sunny position. If you have a shady spot then you can still grow crops such as endive, lettuce, radicchio, peas and spinach. Others will grow, but probably not to their full potential – especially fruiting crops. Always plant the tallest vegetables to the northern side of the garden and the shorter growing vegetables to the southern side of the garden. That said, most recommendations agree that planting north-south is marginally better. The north-south orientation allows the sun to penetrate the garden by shining down the rows.
What is the most profitable vegetable to grow?
Greenhouse Tomatoes (Heirloom-Type Slicers) Tomatoes are the single most profitable crop we grow, and when managed properly, they’re in a class of their own. Prune tomatoes to get them into a ripening mode. And I leave all the tomatoes that have already formed, even if they’re small, because I’m an optimist. Only remove 1/3 to 1/2 of the tomato branches so that there are still leaves to continue photosynthesis to feed and develop the immature tomatoes.
