What pots don t crack in winter?
Choose the right containers terra-cotta and ceramic pots absorb moisture, which expands as it freezes and cracks the container. Metal, concrete and wood containers typically handle freezes well, as do fiberglass and resin pots. Some plastic pots also survive winter fine, but may become brittle over time. Basically they crack because moisture gets into the ceramic. Some ceramic is sold as frost tolerant because it’s been treated to not allow moisture in. This is done in the firing process, not something that can be done after the fact. Best to move any ceramic pots you really care about indoors for the winter.
